So for the sake of your sanity, that’s the last time I’m going to mention either of those things in this blog post. Instead, I’m going to give you homework. Tonight after you’ve put your kids to sleep and taken some time for yourself, I’m going to ask that you look at today, yesterday, last week, the past 3 months and find one thing that was positive about all of it. We can get so mired down in the minutiae of the constant stream of bad news that we don’t stop to think of the good in our days and nights. And I don’t know about you, but holy goodness I need some happy in the world.
I’ve already done this little practice and I can tell you that for me it’s the fact that I have gotten to spend a summer with my son. Something I would never have gotten to do. He’s having an amazing summer being at home, playing outside, swimming every single day! There is no early drop off at camp. No early evening pick up. He is home. My husband and I are home. We have breakfast together. And lunch. And dinner.
It’s something I never would have gotten otherwise. And I try to remind myself of that daily.
