There’s a whole lot of magic that happens every time I pick up my camera.
It’s not just about the light, or the backdrop and location, or even the perfect timing of a laugh, although I do love a perfectly timed giggle—it’s about freezing a moment. A split second that will never happen again.
That’s why I love photographing families over the years. It’s like stepping into a time machine, but instead of buttons and flashing lights, it’s warm smiles, familiar hugs, and the tiniest detail that changes in the blink of an eye.
I have been so fortunate to photograph this family throughout the years. When we met last fall, their sweet daughter was no longer the same spunky little kid. She was a full-fledged teenager. But same incredible smile and all. Now, she’s as tall as her parents, has a sense of confidence that comes with growing up, and is most definitely her own person. But…their family bond? It’s as strong as ever.
When I photographed them for the first time, all the way back in 2016, she was a little smaller, with baby teeth and skinned kneesand parents juggling little hands and a big personality. We played in the tall grass, laughed until our cheeks hurt, and captured a season of life that felt so full.
Looking at these two sessions side by side makes me pause. Because while the seasons change, the leaves fall, and the years fly by… these photos hold still. They keep a piece of those moments forever.
This is why I am a photographer.
To freeze time. To capture moments.
To give you a way to hold onto now—even when now becomes a memory.
