There are families you photograph once, maybe twice.
And then there are families like the Blacks —the kind of family who becomes a part of your heart and your camera roll for life. (And your external hard drive.) 🙂

For the past ten years, I’ve had the honor of documenting their lives, from toddler steps to full-on belly laughs with a teenager and pre-pre teen. Every session with them feels less like work and more like catching up with old friends—because that’s exactly what it is.

What makes them so special isn’t just how photogenic they are (though let’s be honest, they’re stunning). It’s how real they are. They show up exactly as they are: joyful, hilarious, chaotic in the best way, and always connected. No forced smiles. No perfect poses. Just love. The kind of love you can feel in the photos.

Over the years, we’ve photographed in golden fields, on frigid mornings, and even on the playset in their backyard. And every time, they’ve brought the same magic—their ability to be fully present, to laugh loud, to laugh at each other and to love on each other without holding back.

It’s families like this that remind me why I do what I do. Photography isn’t about perfection. It’s about real. I know I say that all of the time, but it’s true. And the Blacks are a perfect example of just how beautiful real can be.
