When Melissa emailed me asking for a session to get a nice shot for their Christmas card, I was super excited. When she told me that she had 4 kids ages 7,7 5, 5 I had no idea what I was in for. And then the day of the session came…and it rained. And instead of canceling, they met me even earlier than our session time and showed up in bright clothes, with equally colorful umbrellas, and smiles for days. That’s because the Strickland family is, simply put, adorable. Thomas, Laila, Jack, and Everly (Jack and Everly are in fact twins) were hilarious and silly and enthusiastic and everything 7 and 5 year olds should be. They were game for rainy adventures just as much as they were game for sweet moments. It’s rare I get to photograph a family of 4 kids (okay, so this was the first time), but it’s even more rare to see how much a family loves one another…as a whole and as individuals. The bonds these siblings have for one another was probably the most amazing thing I witnessed that rainy Sunday afternoon. That and their parents’ ability to be calm and laid back. (I probably should have asked them for their secret…with a 2.5 year old I could stand to be a little more calm and laid back.)
Thank you all for braving the rainy weather and for making my day just that much brighter.

So much personality packed into those four little bodies – those kids are great!!! (And I totally dig the bold colors. Bravo for bringing fun and smiles into a rainy day.)
OMG I am DYING over the one at the top on the right, where the kiddos are making the same face as their dad! How do you bring this out of people, Katie? I feel like you are the “real” family photographer. You always find what makes people unique and share it so beautifully. I cannot wait for the day when you capture my (future) family!
